Murder Mystery Dinner Party — Order of Events

If you’re wondering what the evening of a murder mystery dinner party looks like or you want a description to send to your guests, feel free to refer to the below.

Your Guide to the Evening

When you arrive feel free to begin socializing in character, familiarizing yourself with the space and other attendees. Your Host will make an announcement to officially start the evening once everyone has arrived.

Act I

The purpose of Act I is to discover information from other characters. When mingling in character, feel free to ask other characters about themself — such as where they are from, what they do for work, who they know at the event, etc. You can engage in gossip, divulging information you have about other guests to spark stirring conversation. Feel free to take notes and keep track of your suspicions.

Act II

Act II will commence with the victim’s death, after which you will collect and solve clues to put the solution together. Please be sure to share all clues you find with the group, so nothing is left hidden at the end of the night. You’ll use information derived from the clues in addition to what you learned in Act I to solve the means, motive, and opportunity of the murderer. Once all discussions have reached their conclusion, you’ll have time for final thoughts and accusations before you individually vote for who you think the murderer is. The murderer will then be revealed, as well as awards for best actor/actress and best dressed.
